New
Texas Law which
went into effect January 1, 2004, made major changes
in the way abortions are now performed
in Texas. All women seeking an abortion in Texas
must be provided with certain information at least
24 hours before they can have an abortion performed.
We have attempted to make this requirement simple
for you to fulfill by providing you with a telephone
number where you can call and hear a recording of
our physician providing you with the information
that is necessary.
The telephone
number to access the recording which
can be heard 24 hours a day is:
Houston Recording
713-774-0256 or 1-800-390-0981
Dallas Recording
214-890-0252 or 1-800-390-1042
In addition to listening to the recording you are
required by the Texas Department of Health to view
the following written statement.
You have the right to access certain information
concerning this abortion facility by using the toll-free
number 1-888-973-0022. If you make a call to the
number, your identity will remain anonymous. The
toll-free telephone line can provide you with the
following information: whether this abortion facility
is licensed by the Texas Department of the Health;
the date of the last inspection of this facility
by the Texas Department of Health and any violations
of law or rules discovered during that inspection
that may pose a health risk to you, any relevant
fine, penalty, or judgment rendered against this
facility or a doctor who provides services at this
facility. You have the right to call the toll free
number listed if this facility did not inform you
at the time of your initial consultation that you
have the right to view the Texas Department of Health's "A
Woman's Right to Know" Booklet and Resource
Directory if your choose. You can register complaints
against this facility to Department of Health, 1100
West 49th Street, Austin, Texas 78756. Complaints
must be registered with the department in writing.
A complainant must provide his/her name. All complaints
shall be confidential.
The other changes to Texas Law effects minors and women
seeking abortion over 15 weeks into a pregnancy. Minors
seeking abortion must have parental consent. If you are
unable to obtain permission from a parent, there is an
agency that can possibly assist you. Jane's Due Process
is an organization that works for fair and equal access
for Texas minors seeking abortion services.
They can
be reached toll free at 1(866)
WWW-JANE or
contacted on the internet at www.janesdueprocess.org.
Abortions over 15 weeks can no longer be performed in
a physician's office or abortion facility, they
must be performed in an Ambulatory Surgical Center or
hospital.
We are the only facility in Houston and Southeast Texas
with a Ambulatory Surgical Center enabling us to perform
procedures up to 25 weeks. Remember the changes that effect women seeking abortions
have been passed by our law makers.
It is important that women register to vote and support
pro-choice candidates.
